MARQUETTE – The Marquette City Commission has been asked to adopt a resolution to ensure the protection of Presque Isle Park. The Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee proposed and drafted the resolution, asking that the city authorize a 12-person committee to advise the commission on activities, construction or projects which may be proposed for the park in the future. “Because of its large number of admirers, we feel [Presque Isle] is very fragile and needs protection,” said Virginia Long, member of the Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee. Over the years, there have been proposals for development including a miniature golf course, an observation deck, an island trolley and zoo. The committee has submitted a list of proposed members for the Presque Isle Park committee with varied scientific and professional backgrounds. The city commission will consider the resolution at 7 tonight at its regular meeting in the commission chambers at city hall.

MARQUETTE – City police are investigating the theft of $141 which belongs to the Marquette Softball League. The cash was stolen from the home of Paul C. Bosworth, who was handling the funds for the softball league. The Bosworths left their home at 2:20 p.m. Sunday and they found the cash box missing from its place in a bedroom when they returned at 3:30 p.m., police said. The cash box was found in the Bosworth backyard. It still contained $55.
