Map shows UFO sightings across Merseyside after 'green tic

Aug 18, 2023

A new map has been created to show where UFO sightings have taken place

Almost 1,000 UFO sightings have been documented across the UK in the last two years.

Across Merseyside alone there have been 21 sightings with most cases being concentrated around the city centre. UFO fever has once again gripped the imagination after the US Congress heard from retired Major David Grusch, a former Air Force intelligence officer, about possible evidence of extra-terrestrial contact.

In Liverpool people have reported seeing a host of mysterious sightings including white globes flying across the sky and rugby-shaped balls with a golden shimmer. And now you can see what UFO encounters have been reported using our interactive map.

In 2022 one person in Wallasey reported seeing a "green 'tic-tac'-like object" in the sky that they noticed in a photograph and could not been seen by the naked eye. In 2021 in Otterspool one person claimed they saw a "jet black" boomerang appear "out of nowhere."

In a highly anticipated testimony before a House Oversight sub-committee, Mr Grusch said the US is concealing a long-standing programme that retrieves and reverse-engineers unidentified flying objects. He said the US has likely been aware of “non-human” activity since the 1930s.

Just under half of all documented sightings in the UK include photographic or video evidence. A quarter of all sightings (25%) were of a 'star-like' object or objects, moving across the sky. The next most common sighting was of an unidentified object shaped like an 'orb' (17%), 'sphere', (10%) and 'cylinder' (9%).

While nearly 1,000 UFO sightings have been recorded in the last two-and-a-half years, Ash Ellis of UFO Identified believes many more are going unreported.

He said: “Despite progress being made in recent years to de-stigmatise the topic, there is still an air of trepidation when approaching the subject as the fear or ridicule is very prevalent. There were almost 500 reported sightings in the UK last year, with likely many times that number going unreported showing that there is a genuine concern around unidentified phenomena being seen across the country.”
